Great informative video. I live in AZ and have owned sport coupes, sedans (Mistang GT, IS 350, 328i) and a '17 Forester. Currently I have a '18 Subaru WRX. I am considering again a Forester, Outback XT Onyx or this RDX A-spec. For a daily driver with a Belgian Malinois ( I'm a veterinarian) going to work, getting me camping/hiking/ski/ off-road areas with wife & son, long term reliability, good mileage, practicality which vehicle would you choose.?

Superb SUV. I have more then a year with a 2019 FWD Tech. Trim. Best buy. The interior is functional, modern, sporty, and lux. The power delivery is beyond proper. The drive is responsive and semi firm; proper for all road conditions and especially for highway fun. Acura delivered a suv with all the right stuff. A test drive is mandatory if you are in the market for a SUV.

Buyer beware. JULY 11, 2019 - An Acura RDX infotainment lawsuit alleges the systems suffer from problems with the radios, backup cameras and the audio and navigation systems. The 2019-2020 RDX SUVs are allegedly a danger to drive because of the distractions caused by the infotainment problems. According to the plaintiffs named in the lawsuit, the infotainment systems were a big reason they purchased the RDX vehicles, and now they wish they wouldn't have purchased the SUVs. One plaintiff claims the RDX infotainment system started causing him problems within days of buying the vehicle. The system allegedly would take up to a minute for the audio to start playing, so he called the dealership and was told everything was normal. The plaintiff also claims voice commands are frequently unavailable and the infotainment system freezes and shuts off while he is driving. According to the plaintiff, the promise of Android Auto was important to him but it's been 10 months since he purchased the RDX and still no software update has been released containing Android Auto. The lawsuit says Acura's previous dual-screen infotainment system was a combination of direct touch, buttons and a dial. But when the third generation Acura RDX was released in 2018, it was equipped with a new single high definition 10.2-inch display controlled by a touchpad. According to the proposed class action lawsuit, Acura knew the systems were defective before any of the RDX SUVs were sold. In addition, the plaintiffs say since the vehicles were sold, drivers have constantly complained about the problems. "This has happened to me multiple times (10 or more). I'm happily cruising along with my CarPlay running waze, Pandora and my radio will just stop working and the display stops showing CarPlay information. Another variation is I'm on the phone connected to CarPlay and I can place and receive calls but half the time no one can hear me speak (I can hear them)." "My vehicle is hardly 6 months old and the infotainment stop working 3 times with 6000+ miles. The dealer mechanic doesn't bother bring the vehicle into the shop, they come out, disconnect the battery for a minute or two then reconnect the battery and the system is back on. Next time that happens, I would ask the service manager to document it." Infotainment systems are known as severe distractions to drivers even when the systems work as intended, but the RDX lawsuit alleges a system that continually malfunctions takes the distractions to a whole new level. Acura has allegedly failed to inform the public about the alleged infotainment systems problems and continues to manufacture, market and sell the SUVs with the defective systems. Furthermore, Honda/Acura has allegedly been unable to find solutions to fix the infotainment systems and dealerships typically tell customers to wait for software updates. In some cases, technicians will replace allegedly defective parts with the same defective parts which leaves drivers in an endless cycle of problems and repairs. According to the lawsuit, Honda and Acura dealers routinely tell RDX customers to refrain from bringing the SUVs to the dealerships because there is no way to repair the infotainment systems. The proposed nationwide class action lawsuit alleges at least 100,000 model year 2019-2020 Acura RDX SUVs are affected by the infotainment systems. The Acura RDX infotainment lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Western Division - Banh, et al., v. American Honda Motor Co. The plaintiffs are represented by Hagens Berman, Goldenberg Schneider, and Niekamp, Weisensell, Mutersbaugh & Mastrantonio. CarComplaints.com has owner-reported complaints about Acura RDX SUVs and many other Acura vehicles.

You’re dead wrong claiming that Kia and Hyundai crossovers are “way louder.” If you look at objective noise measurements Acura and Honda tend to be dead last in a given vehicle category. The Koreans generally make impressively quiet vehicles. You’re degrading your own credibility claiming otherwise.

Great review Ryan! I wish you'd taken it off road. Do you think the RDX would do as well as the Honda Passport on the same trail and the incline that you tested the Passport? If we put a decent set of higher profile AT tires on the RDX, would you think that it becomes a bonafide off-road crossover? Thanks for the great reviews.

Acura did such a great job with the new RDX! I agree that the lack of a 360 camera system is ridiculous. The least they could’ve done was make it a separate option.

I can park just fine without a 360 degree system as I do not have one in my current ride. A 360 degree camera system, for me, is useful when you have some tight maneuvering to pull off when parking. I am sure you can pull it off without breaking a sweat and I am sure we are all impressed.

The 2019/20 RDX is beautiful, but the one thing stopping me from getting it in 2 months when my current lease is up is the fact that I cant get the surround view camera with the Aspec pkg, even if I'm willing to pay the 5 grand more to get all the packages! Like you said in the video, it's a careless and stupid omission.

Well done review. 100% correct, for I'm on my second Acura and my hesitation with making this my third, is I want the design features of the A-Spec package, but the upgrades of the Advance as well. I think by not making the combination of the two available, Acura has done a disservice to themselves and their customer base.

Not sure yet if I could get over the learning curve of the touchpad 1 to 1 interface with no option for touchscreen. What do you think about the RDX with the SH-AWD and Techology Package MSRP $42600 vs the Audi Q5 Premium MSRP $42950 as per both their websites? Both are around the same price. Both have AWD. Both have turbo 4's. Same 4 year warranty. Tough call.

This just convinced me that the ACURA RDX ASPEC is going to be my next vehicle. Coming from a full size luxury sedan 2016 Chrysler 300, I've been looking for a sporty compact luxury SUV. I love the styling looks of the new 2019 RDX the aggressive front end design and sharp lines.. i'm in love ! Job well done on this video review you touched on all the points i had questions about .. such as the new infotainment system not being touchscreen and using the touch pad. This review made me feel confident about that new system, as i'm used to a touch screen display. I will be checking this car out at the upcoming 2019 NAIAS in Detroit .. Why does everyone hate the Lexus system? Once you get used to it it's very intuitive to use. Acura's system on the other hand still requires hand/eye coordination. Even though it's true touch, you still have to look down at the touchpad to correctly select the icons in the middle. No, it's not "light years" better than the Lexus system.

@chad haire IF you drive like a teenage boy, with jackrabbit starts, lots of quick gas and brake and racing around ONE car just to stomp the brakes for the slow traffic in front of it, yeah, you'll get low teens...as with ANY OTHER VEHICLE sold, you will see below the EPA city rating if you drive like that. Just stop saying this please, we all know EPA city/hwy/combined is based on an "average" driver, not a teenage boy dealing with over-abundance of testosterone and hoping to get noticed.

@Norm T 38 grand X3 is a 💩. A BMW base model is not worth the money. You will not have: New, sun roof, smart key, reverse camera (prior 2019), 19" wheels, real leather, 278 hp, dual exhaust, complete technically package, 10.2" info.screen, spare wheel, heated seats, and a badge that has lane keep assist and crash preventive tech. A BMW is a great vehicle if you are able to spend large on a few packages.

How is this a mid-level trim? It's a $7k+ pkg (2 pkgs) on top of a base RDX. SH-AWD is over rated. Show me on a wet/dry road/track w/the same tires as a FWD version what the real world advantages are over the FWD. Brochures/engineers can say a lot of things, but I'm not buying the shawd kool-aid. I looks the best but, overhyped in my opinion.

Don't knock SH-AWD unless you've experienced it, The real word differences are huge one of the best torque vectoring systems on the market hands down. it takes some practice as theres a learning curve to its execution but get it down and its unreal.

    • Titanium

      Titanium

K03sport It's mid level because there's a package above it that costs $4,900. SH-AWD is the real deal. Drive a FWD TLX or RDX and then a SH-AWD TLX or RDX on the same twisty road and tell me you don't see an improvement over FWD. It simply handles better. It's not something that can easily be described, it has to be experienced on the proper roads. Even a highway off ramp would suffice to test out the two.

Some details provided in the video are not accurate but I'm sure others picked up on that. Like overall cargo volume is no where near 77 usable cubic feet! Acura also notes almost 80 cubic feet. *Max cargo capacity behind front seats. Based on SAE J1100 cargo volume measurement standard, plus floor space between first and second seats and front seats moved forward. This figure compares more accurately with most competitive measurements. It's really around 59 usable cubic feet with the seats folded down. Also, there is no seat bolster adjustments on the A-Spec, only on the Advanced. Finally, that "exhaust note" that you are hearing is electronic through the stereo. Oh yea, what about that stereo! There is no mention of the quality, 14 speakers, wattage etc. It's probably one of the best features on the car, IMO. Overall, it's a decent review, still a bit late compared to many others that have been out for months.

@chad haire you keep repeating it, but it doesn't make it so. As I stated, if you drive normally, you will get the EPA. If you drive like a 16 year old boy in his dad's sports car, yeah, you will see low teens for MPG just like any car, BMW, Ford, Kia, no matter.

As an owner of a 2011 RDX, it's kind of ironic how the generation RDX I have was ahead of the game. I have a 4-Cylinder SH-AWD on mine, and when they took it away in 2013, it was disappointing. The RDX between 2013-2018 was truthfully boring. It looked okay, but didn't have anything to special. I was so excited to see this for Acura. Next is the Type S.

Great review. I leased an ASpec in white last week and loving the decision. Best car I've had to date. Quick, comfortable, practical and looks gorgeous. The 20" blacked out wheels and blacked out trim look amazing on the white. I want Android Auto, and I'd have liked the HUD and dampers from the Advance, but overall I'm thrilled. Minor addition: There are more cubbies under the trunk floor if you lift it up fully.

so they make it a 4 cylinder and slap on a turbo and based on the 2017 V6 which was 279hp and 19mpg/22mpg doesn't seem like it's that much more economical. Should've kept the V6...I particularly don't care for this whole 4 cylinder turbo movement. The V6 is going to be a thing of the past I'm afraid. Other than that it was amazing. It's my understanding that ZF-9 transmission was sourced from Germany. Not sure what company. The new RDX transmission isn't. I'm not a fan of 9 or 10 speeds. However I didn’t release the Lexus because there mouse sucks. I test drove other CUV 2 rows and I test drove many competitors. I drive mostly on highway and I rather have a V6 over turbo 4. On the highway I discovered the V6 is smoother and it burn similar to turbo 4 or even better. I decided to get Nissan Murano fully loaded. I love that Nissan V6 over any turbo 4 including the X3, Q5 Volvo XC60.
