I pose one question from everyone who has commented here (Because there has been a lot of emotion going on) If you were given the choice of either the Loaded Genesis GV80 top line unit, or the Acura MDX Platinum Elite - straight up you can have either one? Can't sell it, can't trade it in, you simply have to keep it for as long as it lasts, which one would you take? Here is the keys it's yours what do you take and why?

@o_o LOL! Hyundai making low-quality products is reflective of its corporate culture: a vertically integrated large company within which promotion and intermediate material/product sourcing choices are based on nepotism and favoritism. Hyundai made unreliable cars in the 1980's; Hyundai made unreliable cars in the 1990's while telling people the "new" Hyundai of the 1990's was different from that of the 1980's; Hyundai made unreliable cars in the 2000's while telling people the "new" Hyundai" of the 2000's was different from that of the 1990's; Hyundai made unreliable cars in the 2010's while telling people the "new" Hyndai of the 2010's was different from that of the 2000's. It is a company that keeps trying to run away from its pathetic past. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Now on the MDX vs GV80, we are not even talking about reliability, but terrible design and engineering priorities that the GV80 has taken: over-powered unstable tall vehicle (making it dynamically prone to roll over), putting lipstick on a heavy pig. Hiring zillions of propagandists lying on its behalf is not as effective as making a better product.

Sorry, but I completely disagree with your opinion on style. The GV80 is very ostentatious and doesn’t really align with what one would call elegant, I don’t think BMW would ever design something like that. It tries really hard to look like something it is not, a Bentley... The interior is nice though, outside of the steering wheel, lol, looks that it was designed to please the boss... Acura on the other hand is true to their brand and philosophy, and offers good value IMO. I’m waiting to see what Volvo has to offer for their next gen XC90, that’s what I want to buy.

Why can't we all just get along and appreciate both of these vehicles for what they have to offer! They're both excellent in my book. There's definitely more money and extra effort behind the development of the Genesis, but this new MDX is also a good product for what it is and the best MDX to date! However, the GV80 is a true Korean product (fully built in South Korea) vs. the Acura which is a pretend Japanese product (built in USA). I'd pick the Genesis simply because it's so unexpected. Who would've thought Hyundai would get this good in such a short amount of time. Honda, on the other hand, had all the time, money, and potential in the world to come up with a vehicle as good, if not better than the GV80. Yet, they decided to take the cheap route for nearly two decades and build mediocre vehicles up until last year. This new MDX, as well as the new TLX are a response to increased competition from Korea. Def. a step in the right direction for Honda, but it wouldn't have happened without the unrelenting competition coming from Hyundai/Kia.

The Acura MDX appeals to people looking at the RX and Q7, the larger, more 3-row orientated vehicles. Whereas the GV80 appeals to GLE and X5 buyers. The GV80 is arguably more impressive in terms of design and luxury, but the MDX wins on resale value, interior space, and sheer reliability with that N/A 6 cylinder engine. If I had a family, I’d be looking at the MDX. If I just wanted to look like a baller, the GV80

Factory order for Genesis backed up for 4 months. BMW, Acura, Porsche , Mercedes so on all offering hefty discounts. No discount at all for Genesis, in fact dealer trying to charge you extra. On average gv80 staying on dealer parking lot may be 24 hours or less. Acura built in US which affecting reliability, average, if not worse. Genesis 5 of 5 prediction by JD Power prediction. Probably same as Lexus.

I was really liking the video but the nagging over the style of steering wheel turned me off. Serious? Think of FORDS in the late 60’s into the late 70’s and Lincolns. That’s what it reminds me of and I guve Genesis A+++ for trying something different and not the same round hub. As a owner it will not bother anyone after a month. @Max MX I wasn’t being sarcastic at all actually. I’ve been waiting for the Type-S and rumour has it, it’s only going to be putting down around 355 ponies.... and yes, it’s another reason why we went to the GV. I will say though.... with this new gen of MDX, if the price tag is $10-15,000 less than a GV for a Type-S.... a lot of people would go for it. Again, for me.... I wouldn’t buy their V6 in any configuration if it comes with a timing belt vs chain.

Is it just me? I feel like the GV80 looks like a shiny newer version of the old school station wagons, particular the Oldsmobile. Even the steering wheel and dash, with it's long horizontal stretch without anything to break it up seems more appropriate for bench seats than a modern car. The steering wheel is just ugly.

@Skeeter Man yeah I guess so. I just can't get into it. I feel like the MDX has a more modern interior. I like the center stack look and feel

@Skeeter Man my dad used to have the oldmobile cutlass Cierra. I remember that car well. It just has a retro look

I agree it looks like an Oldsmobile. Few here will remember. Except one thing. The body is 21st century modern looking. BTW, I like the odd steering wheel. Maybe because of its old school look. I used to drive a 1986 SAAB. Nuff said.

You pay more for genesis because its the real thing........the Acura is “playing a role”

@Joe Cool In what way? The front grille area is the only instantly recognisable similarity between the two. If that is what you mean by copying, well here’s the thing: out of the two, the MDX arrived first on the market with the beak/chevron shaped front grille. Take a look at a 2005 MDX (a year before the first generation CX-9). Take off the chrome strip with the Acura badge, enlarge the size of the grille and you basically have the front end of a CX-9 2016 onwards. The 2006-2015 CX-9s were also spitting images of their MDX counterparts in the front grille department. If anything Mazda copied Acura first in the 3-row SUV segment. If Acura wants to copy back some features all these years later, well it’s fair game. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all.

@Alboravin If its the "real thing" why is it copying the highly-acclaimed Mazda CX9?

@Joe Cool That’s all good and well, but the OP implied that the Genesis wasn’t ‘playing a role’. Now, as to what exactly the OP means by ‘the real thing’ and ‘playing a role’ well...either they grace us with an answer or we’re none the wiser, leaving room for personal interpretations. Personally I think it could be argued the GV80 is the only one actually ‘playing a role’ here, as Hyundai/Genesis have clearly aimed for the budget Bentayga or Mercedes/BMW killer as a target with the GV80. The MDX, as redesigned as it might be, is the same it’s ever been at its core: same 290hp J-series V6, same 3-row SUV with that SH-AWD. Acura has always been the ‘real thing’ in this regard, and for the most part they’ve been honest about it. Sporty, ultra-premium cars with some practicality, rather than the flat-out luxury the GV80 is pushing for.

@Alboravin The fact that people compare GV80 to the Bentayga is only a good thing for Genesis I dont see anyone comparing MDX to Bentley

That mess wire grille is like a beautiful women with bad ,stained teeth. An otherwise very beautiful vehicle is tarnished by that chicken wire in the front. I think Acura nailed it on this new mdx .
