Sam you killed it on this comparison video. Both very nice luxury 3 row crossover SUV’s. I feel the Acura is more modern and contemporary in its approach, where as the Lincoln stays true to its heritage and appeals to the older clientele. Lots of wood and plastic faux chrome on the interior - nice but over stated. The ride and comfort of the new MDX is undeniable. It’s is quiet and uneventful, you just have this level of confidence that the Acura will get you there. Love the ambient lights on the dash of the Acura as well. Just more modern in its approach. Great video!

@Dave duCille Dave, good observation. At least you speak from the heart. I drive a 2022 MDX Advance (Platinum Elite - Canadian Version) and having had seat time in the vehicle I too find the power underwhelming. I'm banking on the soon to arrive Type S version to give a much needed boost of juice! As for driving impressions, it drives, handles and rides amazing! The addition of the double wishbone front suspension and SH-AWD makes this vehicle track, corner and cruise beautifully down the road regardless of road conditions or imperfections. Listen I've driven the Lincoln Aviator on many occasions, the powertrain is quite good Robust power, great towing capabilities and confident trackability, but no fucking chance it out handles the MDX. MDX is compliant, spirited and has the Drive Mode Select to vary the different steering, braking and throttle response applications, along with the active dampener suspension it offers so much variety for many drivers. At the end of the day these two formidable luxury SUV's are great offerings. Good thing is they are different in their own ways. I like both in fact, I just cannot get past the amount of fake wood and cheap chrome accents in the Aviator. But it is a nice rig and for the price it should be. Answer me one thing? If the MDX drives like shit, why is it the number one three row crossover for years? So much so it's pre-sold for three months in advance. Not to mention the resale is through the roof. Makes Consumer Reports recommended buy list and garners all kinds of accolades from automotive journalists.

@Chris Holmes literally just came from driving bother and the woefully underpowered mdx drives like shit. Yes it's trendier looking but that's about it. The Lincoln does look more old school but it rides that way too

@Chris Holmes Despite the Acura MDX's many positive attributes, none of this changes the FACT that the MDX is still a crossover on a minivan/crossover platform masquerading as a true SUV.

The touch pad is BS. Amazingly the Honda Pilot has a touchscreen. I have been a Acura guy since my 92 Legend coupe (and how I miss that car). But the stubbornness of Honda of not making a V8 (yes I know the Aviator is 6 cyl...just a general comment) and a damn "touchpad" I'm cast my vote for the Aviator.

The MDX leases out about the same as the Aviator. At the end of the day all Acura has going for it is the performance. The avatar offers more luxury and the Genesis GV80 is overpriced and the Cadillac XT6 feels cheep and leases out about 100.00 less then the MDX. I was forced to get the MDX because my 2018 MDX was over the miles and did not hold its resale value and Acura made it the easiest to get out of the lease otherwise I would have gone for the Lincoln.

Sam, a very interesting comparison. Here is my story. I was very close to buying MDX Advanced. Initially, Acura offered no incentive when it launched 2022 MDX. So the price they offered was $62K USD. I had my budget set at a low 60K USD. So, I didn't even consider Aviator PHEV. Yet, I just bought an Aviator PHEV with 360 Plus and Element package cheaper by $500 than MDX including the Fed Tax Credit and the discount from the Lincoln dealer. For me, it was NO brainer at all. Yes, I admit that I don't have the HUD on my Aviator GT but have a cooling seat for the 2nd row. Aviator PHEV offers 500HP/630lbft and a better interior/luxury experience. The difference in the fuel cost will further save me $2000 over a few years. In this case, what would you pick? Is this still a touch choice? (by the way, GT has a 21 inch wheel instead of 22 inch one you tested. And the more weight at the bottom (battery) provides a bit smoother ride)

    • Melissa T.

@Randy Mogle Well, I built one online to get all the options that I have in my Aviator. The base msrp for the base engine, which has less hp/torque, is $74,900. To get most of the options I have in mine, I’d be adding $13k of options/packages. So, coming from someone who got a ‘fully loaded’ Reserve, I spent $12k less on mine than the $87,945 X7. That’s why I went with the Aviator. Plus, the looks of the X7 do not appeal to me at all, inside or out (especially the ugly grill). So, that’s one answer to your question as to why someone would buy an Aviator instead of an X7.

    • Randy Mogle

🤦🏻‍♀️ Write down all the options in a fully loaded Aviator and build your own X7 on their website and put down (or at least try to find) all the options the Aviator has and watch that price go into 6 figures.

    • dnice pimpin

      dnice pimpin

@Randy Mogle so you seem to think that a vehicle that ranges from $73k (you will never find that model on the lot) and goes all the way up to $121k+, that a $82k version model would be “well optioned” lmao. Surely that makes great sense: NOT...once again I don’t know if you’re trolling or just not knowledgeable of the automotive industry but this “well optioned” reasoning doesn’t work in any vehicle segment. You may favor the X7 and that’s ok, but to say a almost fully loaded Aviator is comparable to LOW SPEC X7 is silly

We’ve all heard about the launch issues this (and the Explorer) had. Just for fun last week I looked up lightly used ones. I bought 2020 Lincoln Aviator Reserve with all the packages last September got a great deal. This is my last auto purchase and I want a good one, that it is, the very best with more bells and whistles than needed, complete luxury, I love this car! The ride is like a dream! UPDATE

I have the exact same. Bought mine in September 2019 and I’ve never regretted my decision. I searched and test drove many SUVs in it’s class and none impressed me as much as the Aviator. Range Rover, Lexus, Acura, Chevy, Cadillac and Infiniti...Lincoln won us over!

Ok 1st off , u can't compare the 2 really bc the type-s isn't out yet, n u picked a winner off of SPEED. Which doesn't give the acura any chance bc its not fast . 2nd anyone who knows cars, suv's, and trucks , would know that the acura is a new generation model, bc its a good suv n moves units. The Lincoln is a new model of a failed suv that didn't move units ,n was a terrible suv before. The Lincoln is clearly overpriced , which u pointed out ,but some how back tracked on their the same bc of different packages. HOW? When the acura fully loaded is topped at 70,000, and the Lincoln at 80,000 or beyond . IDK, to me u gave the acura , a bad rep , when clearly ur out for speed but have a base model mdx. There so much more than speed when driving the 2 , u got room , gas, reliability, or even design and features . N acura n those phases wins hands down .

@Mike Norman Exactly. His own preference but didnt say which of the two would be the winner. At 29:20 he started to say why either of the two would be ideal and at 30:45 he stated how there is no exact winner, which is exactly my point.

    • Mike Norman

      Mike Norman

@Delvin nivleD again he had a preference which was the Aviator bc of power , I didn't agree, he did say things about the mdx as well .But the fact his preference was the Aviator I felt he picked a winner n the Aviator. Regardless if he picked a winner or not ppl will still ignore what the mdx has or offers bc ,the Aviator has more power n thats what alot of ppl want .

    • Delvin nivleD

      Delvin nivleD

@Mike Norman You stated in your previous comment "n u picked a winner off of SPEED. Which doesn't give the acura any chance bc its not fast", he didnt pick a winner at all. He stated what would be a good reason to get the Lincoln AND in that same breath he stated what would be a good reason to get the Acura. You also said "There so much more than speed when driving the 2 , u got room , gas, reliability, or even design and features . N acura n those phases wins hands down" which is your own bias opinion so that's why Im saying that he wasnt being biased.

I test drove both recently and i find the MDX to be very plastic feeling and little to no luxury. My money will be going on the Lincoln, probably not the Aviator, most likely the Nautilus as its redesigned for 2021 and looks just like the Aviator but no useless 3rd row.

Make sure to drive them both! We ended up with a black label Aviator and love it! The Nautilus is stuck with that 4 cylinder which always seems to be working too hard and the interior styling is ho hum with relatively cheap-feeling touches. Oh and the grandkids love that 3rd row...for some reason...:)

@Mike Norman Ford has been using air suspension systems for many years and they are successful. And this Lincoln is not just a rebadged ford. Every body panel is unique to the aviator. The Aviator looks nothing alike the explorer. Nothings wrong with a ford it’s a ton better than that GM and FCA crap. The new Cadillac XT6 makes the aviator look like a rolls Royce. The XT6 doesn’t even have massage seats😂

    • Tyler Lewis

      Tyler Lewis

@Mike Norman 🤨 Small screen? It’s a 10 inch screen... and if lincoln is just “American luxury” than Acura is just “Japanese luxury” and the MDX isn’t even sporty outside of its looks. Lincoln offers way more luxury than the MDX and you can’t argue that.

    • Mike Norman

Also u do know that the air ride suspension will go out sooner or later n is a Fortune to fix . It comes down when ur trying to get in ,which is old and another copy from Mercedes. N u do know Lincoln is nothing but a FORD. Just different badge like the Honda n acura .

  92. paul pellico

    paul pellico

ok...now the REAL differences...the suspensions. the lincoln, is a bit harsher because it is more stable, more performance. the lincoln is RWD...making it my choice here in texas. however OIF i was to get the acura, it would be ONLY their SH-AWD, probably one of the top 4 AWD systems in production today for normal purchases. that is IF you need AWD. I don't. and again, that RWD based lincoln will perform tons better in everyday driving than the FWD only acura. that will be the decision to make and what really separates them. AWD....the acura is best. two-wheel drive, no comparison...the lincoln walks away the winner.

    • paul pellico

      paul pellico

Acura is Japanese sport luxury styling. I like it and normally Japanese styling is more aggressive. I’d be shocked if I got in a Lexus, Acura, or INFINITI and the styling wasn’t aggressive. It’s literally just a matter of preference if you ask me. If I want clean cut lines I would get a GV80 and if I want sporty styling I’d get an MDX.

@Kristiāns Ozoliņš when Acura first came out they were outselling Mercedes, BMW, and Audi combined which is why Toyota made Lexus and Nissan made INFINITI in the first place. • AFCompany

@dnice pimpin ya no one is denying that BMW and Mercedes are more expensive but yes they are over priced. So people will pay that much just to say they have one of those cars even if the car isn’t as good as a Lexus, Volvo, or Acura. Honestly the 3 series is not a luxury car. Acura tinkers with the platform as well and will use different materials for Honda’s platform as supposed to Acura. Only the contact points are staying the same. So I don’t see how that makes Audi any better. Yes Audi have more legitimate sports cars for sale while Acura only has a super car. So they have a better line up with more high end models. Also even if you don’t consider Acura or Lincoln on the level of BMW and Mercedes they doesn’t mean they wouldn’t compete with them. I mean Lincoln isn’t crossed shopped much with the Germans. However Acura and Lexus are always cross shopped with Audi, Mercedes, and BMW. Which means they compete. The whole point of Asian luxury cars are to be the cheaper alternative to the Germans so they would never price them the same. Also unless you option up BMW and Mercedes are ridiculously over priced. Which is why the Asian brands offer a lot of their options standard.

    • dnice pimpin

      dnice pimpin

@AFCompany Audis higher than Acura/Lincoln/Volvo, but also behind BMW and then MB Higher up on the luxury ladder. Yeah Audi shares bones with lots of VW groups vehicles. Thing is that Audi has it own development team that’ll then tinker with the platform/ same with Porsche. But Audi also has vehicles like S6 S7 RS6 RS7 Q8 QS8 who’s playforms are shared with the elite brands of VW group (Lambo/Bentley/Porsche) Lincoln and Acura were only top coats for so long. Both are getting better, but to think that all of a sudden they’re competing with BMW/MB is asinine. And I’m telling you about MSRPs (how much a car sells for) which factors into how much the automaker is making off the vehicle. MSRP directly correlate to marketplace position because it shows how much the consumer is willing to pay for something. Resale values have nothing to do with that. And once again, to anyone who wants to say diff, research ANY statistic you want; you won’t find ANY that show Acura’s MSRPs being close to MB/BMWs. Styling and preferences are objective, but these are FACTS. If Acura occupied the same marketplace as MB/Bmw you’d see their vehicles being priced close to MB/BMWs but YA DONT. There’s a reason for that. Y’all keep saying MB/BMWs are overpriced and they ARE, but guess why they are; people deem them as having a certain status and are willing to pay.

Acura invented ACE body structure and is engineered by known engineering company. I trust Honda before Hyundai. GV80 is very nice and has the most gadgets overall in segment. Gadgets alone is Genesis. Special features and engineering and vehicle that offers everything and all around :Acura MDX, luxury and prestige: MB GLE, luxury prestige off road: Land Rover/Range Rover, best luxury on frame: Lincoln Aviator, best performance luxury: Porsche Cayenne. Best safety: Volvo and Acura. The Best Reliable Luxury European: Volvo XC90. The rest are overrated, outdated: BMW X5, Lexus RX , Cadillac XT6, Audi Q7, Jaguar ( doesn’t have a competitor yet) nor does Alfa or Maserati) this sums up the field. Also let’s see how this new Infiniti comes out. Will be a crowded dog fight. Not including luxury trim mainstream products
