Two Corrections. MDX gets an iBooster, (Electronic Brake Booster) not DBW like TLX and NSX. Also we said TypeS get two turbos, only gets a dual scroll single turbo.

@Scott Douglas lol! Honda's haven't held their value for some time. Our(Edmund's)2018 Honda Accord EX-L stickered for $30,865, including destination. Over the course of a year, we added 13,302 miles to our odometer. In this condition, the Edmunds TMV Calculator valued the Accord at $23,815 based on a private-party sale. That works out to 22.8% depreciation, which is slightly worse than the fleet average of 22% average. The depreciation level is even worse when you consider that the majority of our cars pass the 20,000-mile mark. Edmund's longterm Accord

Had a 2017 MDX and hated the transmission. While it was a nice vehicle, it was not as nice as a Mercedes GLE at the same price point. Acura needs to be careful how they market this vehicle. Have a 2021 RDX and love it!

My Two Cents ..... an update to my comments now that I have test drove the MDX Advance (That's the model I will get !!) and also the 2021 RDX. Yes more Pep , better handling in the RDX (it's quick , hugged entrance ramps like a dream, no sweat), but since I'm coming from a 2019 MDX with that extra room ... The 2 vehicles leave me on the Fence. Only helps to Feed my OCD... The MDX is a great vehicle , and my initial critique about the Touch Pad is somewhat overcome with the more you drive it and learn it.... If Acura made that a Touch Screen or even better, did BOTH.... an absolute No Brainer. The HUD is fantastic , love the quality digitals , screen clarity, wireless Car Play and Android Auto. And to add the Icing to the Cake, one of , if not the best AWD systems out there. Even though I have 10 months left on my 2019 MDX lease, Acura putting $1K Loyalty money on the table, plus the "equity" I have in my current vehicle, this new 2022 is really Teasing me. I saw great Pics on a Acura Blog site of the Fantom Blue with Graystone interior - The Graystone interior seems the Least "Busy" using solely grays and blacks, and not mixing too many schemes into the materials like the Espresso ( or even the Parchment - not too crazy about the dark gray plastic seat backs on the front buckets).

Oh Yeah, completely agree... The Telluride was too "floaty" IMO. Good value for what it is, But I found hesitation at standing start, and the Front Wheel version that I test drove, Spun the front tires very easliy on a Dry Road !! Dealer didn'y have any AWD models to test drive.

Excellent video and you guys made some good points. I’d wait for the Type S with the turbo 6. (Wish it was a twin turbo) Hope it doesn’t break the bank. You get a lot for the money in this car at base of $47k. I sat in one at the dealer and it was impressive inside and out. I’ll watch your video of the Type S when it comes out. Thanks

The best review ever ! I love the shop discussion, Do you think this new MDX is a good occasional tow vehicle for a 2000-3000 Lb trailer ? I know it’s rated for 5000 lbs when properly equipped with the towing package. Currently I tow with a Ridgeline which has the same engine BUT 6 speed auto, Just wondering what it would be like with the new 10 speed auto ?

12:00 Why would Acura only compare this to the base XC90? That's not a real comparison. Acura's main competitor in this segment is the XC90 T6 Momentum which blew them away (we bought one vs the previous gen MDX and so did a lot of other people). I'm watching this trying to see if this new MDX is worthy to move to from the XC90 T6 that we have. GREAT JOB as usual guys... love your videos. Thanks!

I over the past six months have driven every luxury SUV and nothing comes close to the MDX, 2022 for space, responsiveness, price to value, and for sure terrific looks inside and out. I just bought my Red Pearl MDX and will pick it up Monday. I was most disappointed in almost every Mercedes, Audi and even the Volvo line, as they are just too much in love with their high price to value relationship with current cars. Lexus, has been so conservative that they hold back too and just now this fall may have their NX 450h and three other options, but for them and the others I mentioned you will not even find much on the lots now, because of the micro-chip shortage, battery shortages, plants shut down, etc., etc. Product is coming in nationwide very slowly. However, Acura's MDX made in their Ohio plant, (as the Alabama plant in Lincoln) is busy making others) both still seem to be pushing out product, with the exception of the new coming change in the Honda Pilot I drove two days ago and the new change seems to be coming for design change maybe by end of year, if parts alliance holds up. So many ifs! I was most impressed with my new 2022, MDX and just hope I feel that way in a few years. I plan on buying my wife a new car soon, and I will be trading each year until I die now, every three years or 36.000 miles, as so many changes are taking place over the next 15 years with EV's, PHEV's and God knows what else will be born! Not interested in having driver anxiety over the next few years with a EV traveling across the third largest country on planet Earth looking for a charging station and needing to stay in a hotel every 300 or 400 miles with the issues of getting more juice. If they, our government gets smart, they will force Tesla and others setting up charging stations that cost from $230,00 to $500,000 per charging station to have a unified charging head, (like in all the EU countries) where you can travel most places now without real worry of sitting on the side of the road with NO EV power left. Not ready for prime time yet. I plan on enjoying my MDX and thank God my wife of 53 years gave the Pearl Red a heads up!

Spectacular review. Great explanations for the lay person. As a new owner of an MDX (moved up from a 2019 RDX Advance), the information and descriptions, especially all the technical details, in this review helps makes me much "smarter" about the car. I have an Advance in Fathom Blue Pearl and so far I love everything about the car. Looks and drives amazing. Thanks!

Just bought one today. It came down to the GV80 and this. The GV80 is more upscale feeling and felt more special. It also felt like it was going to be not just more expensive up front, but long term. I test drove the MDX about two weeks ago and hated the light steering and the gutless lack of torque. Here's the thing...I'm not going to wring the shit out of a car that I may not buy so I didn't rev it out, but it was also in comfort mode which overboosts the steering to the point that you can't even feel it and eliminated any kind of throttle response. You put the thing in normal and it feels fine, you put in sport mode and it feels alright. The stereo was another near miss....the one that I test drove had some knucklehead crank the bass all the way up to the point that it sounded like shit.....at non-dumbass settings it's really nice. It's very clean. The real sticking point was the stupid touchpad thing. I like to touch what I see on the screen, but I went back to the dealer and basically said "let me just sit in the damn thing and see if I can get over it". About 5 minutes of messing around with it I felt good enough to put it back on the list and obviously good enough to buy it. The selling points are that I think that it strikes a good balance between being attractive without being garish or f'ing stupid looking (Hilander). The steering is so responsive and for an SUV it has very little body roll (at least that I could feel). You point it and you are going there. It also has a very good turning radius for U-turns and stuff. The ride is good; it's not as well damped as a Lincoln, but I don't feel like i'm floating 2 feet above the road either. The HUD is nice and bright and I can see it with sunglasses on. It drives smaller than it is. The V6 is smooth and even if I don't have that ridiculous low end torque it's still a mid 6 second 0-60 SUV and it's going to be damn near bulletproof. An oil change is going to be priced at near human prices (i'm over spending $400-700 every time I go to get an A or B service on the European crap). 3rd row is a joke just like damn near everything out there save for perhaps the Telluride or Pallasade....which by the way with the current f'ing mess in the industry are marked up about $10K over MSRP locally.....my local Acura dealer didn't screw around even though the Advanced package is flying off the showroom floors. We literally got a 2022 MDX for less than a fully loaded Kia would have cost....nothing wrong with Kia...I own a Stinger GT2 and LOVE it, but you put this side by side with the Kia and for the same price out the door it's a no-brainer.

Awesome in depth review. Looks like they borrowed a lot of items that I already have on my 2017 Honda Ridgeline. Engine for starters. SH-AWD, which, in my opinion is nothing short of fantastic. The double wishbone suspension in the front looks very familiar too. I would love to have this level of luxury in my Ridgeline. It's the only thing I wish I had gone higher trim level for. Looking for something a little more luxurious on the inside. May have to look at an RTL or Black edition. This is a very nice vehicle. It may be different from the Pilot, but I would love to see a side by side comparison, other than than the body lines.

As a ex Highlander owner and current Pilot owner, I can say the Pilot is better in every way. The MDX is hot though... And I might go for one if Honda misses the mark on the new Pilot. I hope they don’t try too hard to make it look like a truck.

LOVE your reviews but like every other reviewer, you don't spend any time telling us about the front passenger seat. Same controls as the drivers? Lumbar support? It's the first question the spouse asks...Does the front passenger seat have lumbar support? I don't know, NO ONE ever says!?! At 3:10 you show a shot of the drivers seat controls, spend all kinds of time on the middle row and back seat, 5 minutes on driving impressions (from the drivers seat) but zero time on the front passenger seat. I understand, no other reviewer does either but do you think you could be the first? You guys are awesome!

You guys offer a top shelf car review. Love the complete systems description that I don't see elswhere. I have a 2019 MDX Advance and I'm at the halfway point of my 36 month lease (actuall 20 months in), and have stumbled on this new 2022 version. Really liking the improvements overall. Wish the i infotainment screen which is welcomed large one, was touch screen as well. At 69 yo, and test drove the 2019 RDX, which has the new Acura Touchpad , that touchpad was a turnoff to me. And it should be pointed out that the 2019 MDX was a better value . Agreed to the statements, that MDX is a little boring with aged dual screens, and in the way it drives. My Advance package included 45 ratio tires. This 2022 has 50 ratio tires. It does make a difference that I could feel in Sport suspension and drive modes. The loaner that I drove a few months ago, with 50 ratio tires on 20 inch wheels DID make a difference that i could feel. If i dont upgrade to the 2022 model ( I would consider that with a upgrade lease program ?), i will change the tires on my 2019 which has 20 inch wheels to 50 ratio tires. Thats my Two cents . Great work guys.

MDX always seemed to me like a moving target attempting to apeal to a broad customer base. The previous generation MDX Sport Hybrid is a blast to drive. 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. Not blazingly fast, but, as fast as an s2000. I'm looking forward to a Sport Hybrid option in the new MDX. Acura need to get real about their privacy policies. O.K. , Mr. SG, I am comparing the 2022 MDX with tech to a 2018 BMW 640i Grand Turismo XD. Beyond a certain point all those gee-whiz buttons, lights and sounds don't impress me, I don't require a third row seat, and I'm not looking to race anybody. What's important is that it looks nice, drives nice, and can handle emergency avoidance maneuvers without tipping over. when you did the review of the BMW, you were basically slobbering all over yourself licking its tail pipes, while having some sort of out-of-body experience. The MDX review was pretty subdued. I know maintance and repairs is not going to be cheap on either vehicle. So what I'm asking is, which one would you or your subscribers go with ?

Great review. Once I'm ready to buy a new vehicle the Type S variants of both the TLX and MDX will be available used at a nice lower price. Even though the last generation was looking average at best in terms of design and value it was still a sensible purchase. The MDX in general is a hit and if the Type S variant really knocks it out of the park then it will be the perfect alternative to the BMW X5.

I’ve owned a 2005 and 2014 MDX. Great bang for your buck...Power train, room, comfort, sound system....all top notch...Biggest negative on the modern MDXs...the infotainment system...It’s as bad as the Honda infotainment system...the two worst infotainment systems on the market. Too bad because it’s a blast to drive, compared to other SUVs...that V-6 is sooooo sweeet sounding...

It looks like the Plenum is it plastic now versus my parents aluminum, I still think their nine speed ZF is the better transmission Also it’s too bad that Honda has not jumped to a chain driven valve train versus the belt for the 3.5 .. Driving the previous model I was surprised how neutral it felt I didn’t push the car very hard because my dad only had 1800 miles on it..

I see they still have the crappy location for the oil filter my parents just recently bought a 2020 MDX and I was looking over everything pretty interesting on what they do looks like the rear differential because they have the SH all-wheel-drive has it on internal pump, and they have put the oil cooler from the transmission on the top for the ZF .

Jack, you should have known better before making that enlargement comment, you made 24 + min video and it looks like some people remember only that remark out of it. But that's OK, you are just another double standarded bigot.

I totally agree with your take on having the Type R included in the MDX commercial. It is geared towards generating excitement towards the everyday driver, but coming from a person who is used to driving cars like the Type R, Sti, etc it is not the same. It seems out of place to me, but again, it is geared towards a certain demographic.

that black interior plastic ruins it for me - should have been textured aluminum - or charge a little bit more and use wood/some other exotic material. Excellent review, as always.

By far, the best reviewer on ACURA. Every shot looks amazing, the editing is super clean, audio is spot-on, it's just crazy how professional and polished these videos are. So much effort, time, and money must go into these, I can't imagine. Subscribed, and looking to forward to more amazing vids!!
