Curious if Acura also took notice of the Japanese Market exclusive Type S Zero editions of the 97-01 NSX. If I recall correctly, the Type S Zero was designed as a successor edition to the then temporarily discontinued NSX Type R and utilized similar tuning and engineering techniques used for the previous NSX Type R models. Since a few Honda reps have previously made statements in the past few years that suggest future Type R variants will be a Honda-only edition, perhaps Acura can bring forward Type R levels of tuning and engineering under a Type S Zero name?

@Honda Boy I honestly think they should just let the RSX rest in piece. It’s the last of the Integra blood line, and anything else after that will just ruin the name. Legendary cars. People can turbo existing RSX’s and blow these new cars away. Or Acura can bring back an all new S2000 AP3 :)

I test dove this cause I need to find a new car to replace my Accord V6 6 speed Coupe. But the most important part of the car, the transmission, just doesn’t work. There is no manual mode, so even when you’re using the paddles the car shifts how it wants. You can’t just hold a gear and listen to the exhaust sound. If you’re not accelerating then the trans will just upshift. I can understand if it auto shifts at redline, but why is it shifting at 3k rpm when I’m cruising and want to hear the engine and exhaust sound? What’s the point of the paddles if there’s no manual mode?

The driving settings are great. I like putting it on sport when a piece of s*** Driver gives me a hard time. Zone the fuck outta his way. The hood of the car is really bold. When in the passenger / driving seat, view to the road is really nice. Statement piece. Thanks Acura.

Yes, this aggravates me so much! The dealership I bought from did not tell me about that, and when I asked them, they claimed they had no idea it didn't work! Somehow I don't believe that. I called Acura corporate and they basically said too bad, nothing we can do about it. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

Both my wife and I hate the TTI. The RDX was high up on our shopping list until we recently test drove it. We still like the car but could not stand the annoying infotainment system, including the obnoxious noises it makes. Since we don't care for the built-in infotainment system, we immediately connected one of our iPhones and could not believe how horrible the user experience was. The TTI makes it almost impossible to use the Apple CarPlay effectively; secondly, we could not extend the CarPlay to full screen; instead, it only occupied about 3/4 of the entire screen, making it tiny like in some economy car. If RDX had a touch screen along with TTI, we would be OK with that and would consider it as our next car, because as the car itself, it fits us perfectly, but because of the TTI and lack of touch screen, the RDX is no longer a consideration, unfortunatelly.

Besides the sizing issue that I have with this car (3 series on the inside, 5 series on the outside) this car ruined by a stupid trackpad that controls the screen! Acura is stubborn and is not giving people the choice on how to interact with the screen. they claim that the trackpad is safer to use - which is a total b.s. but at the same time there might be some truth to it in a sense that because the system is so no intuitive and crappy to use, no one is actually using it, so Acura achieved their b.s goal. I have been a big fan of Acura's and owned many of them, but not anymore, not until I that trackpad goes away or touch input returns - CarPlay is almost unusable in any of their new product because of this gimmicky interface!

I love Acura's & Honda's, but I think the TLX Type S will get slaughtered by the Germans & Koreans. Its already losing in drag races against Audi & more will follow. I am a big fan, so I strongly advise give it at least 30HP more from factory in 2022 or 2023. It has way more weight and some extra torque & HP will make it much better.

I agree. Actually, it sounds like this motor will get dropped into a number of platforms. It would be wicked if mated to a resurrected/updated S2000 roadster. I too have an ‘06 TL 5AT, w. 166K miles. The car is heavily modded, and it has been super-reliable & durable. And it corners like a go cart. I’d see myself with a TLX Type S as well.

Does this engine have a timing belt or timing chain? Why is this information suppressed and so hard to find? I am assuming Acura is using a timing belt to save money and increase maintenance costs to the owner? Bad move! From the video I am seeing what looks like plastic cam gear covers.

@Leela Kamalesh Yadlapalli Mercedes new M139 engine produces 208 hp/litre and uses a closed deck engine. Acura didn't need to use a turbo for such a low hp/litre engine. Turbos stress the engine. They reduced the engine size from 3.5 litres to 3 litres and then used a turbo to gain back power lost from decreasing the engine size. The Acura engine designers need to be fired. They easily could have got 100 hp/litre out of the 3.5 litre if they wanted too. Really they went for a turbo to get the seat in the pants torque off of the line. Turbos are like 98 lb weaklings taking steroids.

It’ll be interesting to see how this engine holds up over time since Honda/Acura never released a Turbo based engine for consumers before until recently. (Not sure if they have for their F1 engines). Though I’m a little bit disappointed it doesn’t have VTEC. Not a deal breaker but it would’ve been great.

I was wondering what Honda was doing a few years back, with their designs. Honda seemed to be so lost. At one point, I asked Honda to catch up with their designs such as black trims etc. Now, I have no doubt that Honda not only caught up, but also stand out from its competitors. That is, design wise. I think Honda is forgetting something. What customers "buy into"? I'd say Honda needs to focus on how to bring its high revving engines. Without this one absolute unique characteristics of Honda, these Type S will be just one other fast cars on the road. I know this is "easier said than done", but I just wish Honda would keep developing their engines towards this. Even with turbo, high revving is possible. Environment factor? That is enginners part. But yeah, that is THE HONDA I know of.
